Having had to postpone the annual event because of bad weather in September, the organisers were blessed with a perfect autumn day with bright skies and warm sunshine. The day provided the thousands of visitors with a chance to see how farming was carried out in years gone by and for the older folk to reminisce about ' the good old days'. Big attractions on the day included the beautifully restored vintage vehicles two steam engines, vintage tractors and vintage cars, including two Heinkels made in Dundalkthe demonstrations of threshing, four teams of horses ploughing, including All-Ireland champion Gerry King and his son David, a working black smith and, of course, the sheep racing.
On a honeymoon trip to Italy, Mrs. Grey Porter, from Carrickmacross and wife of the rector of a neighboring parish, was inspired by Italian lace designs. The school grew in popularity, as did the fine quality Carrickmacross lace.

Her First Communion veil would be the same kind of lace and be made by her grandmother, Elizabeth Daly. Daly, who now has been creating Carrickmacross lace for 41 years. There are many kinds of lace, including needle lace, made with a needle and thread; machine made; and bobbin lace, made by manipulating bobbins of thread on a pillow.
The Monster Vintage Day scheduled to take place in Carrickmacross this weekend has been cancelled due to the adverse weather condtions. It is hoped the event, which was to have taken place this Sunday 30th September will be re-scheduled when the weather improves, although no date has yet being confirmed. Carrickmacross Vintage Club and Steadfast House would like to thank the community for their input, interest and good will.
